• Call to Order

  • Meeting called to order at 4:40 pm

 

• Reading and Approval of Minutes

  • This is the first meeting for the school year. 

 

• Principal’s Report

  • Due to the vaccine mandate we are down 5 teachers , 3 paras, 1 principal and we have 2 teachers that have resigned.

  • Notification was sent to families last Tuesday from the superintendent’s office that Mr. St Aubaine is the new IA Principal. We also have 2 people from Central helping us.

  • We have 1 sub teacher that is committed until December 23rd. 

  • Saturday planning will take place for the teachers that are not here to have consistent work for scholars for ELA and Math.

  • Last Friday was our Homecoming celebration instead of Family Day.

  • Ms. Eustache is the staff member of the week. 

  • Safety Procedures - Scholars are still being kept 3ft apart.

  • Parents don’t have to show vaccination cards in cases of emergency.

  • A few scholars give push back about keeping their masks up. 

  • Ms. Kilgore asked about kids being vaccinated. Because it’s not mandated we cannot tell who is and they’re not under any obligation to tell us. We do not have access to that information.

  • Vaccinated scholars are not required to get tested. 

  • We have not had any reports of any positive covid cases in the school so far.

 

• UFT Report

  • Ms. Graham spoke about teacher vaccines and the fact that there aren’t any solutions as yet.

• PTSA Report

  • Ms. Apolayo introduced herself as the new PTSA President.  They have not had an eBoard meeting or a general meeting as yet.  

 

• Discussion of Unfinished business

  • Bylaws were received and they were reviewed by the SLT.

  • Proposed changes - Time and date of meeting: Last wednesdays of each month at 4:30 pm

 

• Discussion of New Business/Matters Arising

  • AP Cadogan - afterschool is providing tutoring for an hour Monday-Thursday for homework help and to help scholars bridge the gap created during the onset of Covid. 

  • State Exams will be taking place as usual for this 2021-2022 school year. ELA is in March and Math in late April.

  • Ms. Kilgore asked about us having a graduation ceremony but we will not know until a few months what will be allowed due to the vaccine mandate for adults and their ability to enter the building.

 

• Closing

Meeting called to order at 4:44 pm by Principal Onwuka.

 

Attendees: Principal Onwuka, Mr McLeod, Ms, Silverman, Ms. Houston, Ms. Apolayo, Ms. Kilgore, Ms. Graham

 

Ms. Graham read the minutes from the last weekend and they were approved.

 

Principal’s Report

We had 6 teacher vacancies and we have been trying to fill them.

ATR - covering science

7th Grade ELA teacher

6th Grade ELA teacher

2 subs today filling the gap

School culture - students are leaving their classrooms and teachers have been covering classes.

There is no access to Galaxy as yet for Ms Onwuka. When she receives access she will be able to tell us where the school is with money and resources.

Ordering ELA materials this week for all grades.

Had an assembly on Monday “Be Cool Be Kind” for anti bullying week. We will conclude the week with a guest speaker who will speak to the school in an assembly. 

 

UFT Report

Election Day scholars will be working asynchronously and teachers will be working remotely doing PD for the day. 

Ms. Silverman has the kink for scholars that need a device and for scholars that need their devices fixed.

 

PTA Report 

Ms. Lee wants to know if Mr. Rochford answered any questions about having school fundraising activities and outside parent activities. 

Ms. Lee also asked about OT services outside of the building.

Ms. Lee asked about what is being done about scholars that are being bullied. What are the consequences for the bullies? That’s a concern.

Ms. Kilgore told us that Title 1 will be donating perishables and collecting baskets for Thanksgiving to hand out to parents.

Ms. Apolayo received the bank letter.

 

We will be having our Thanksgiving Feast this year Tuesday November 23rd but parents will not be allowed to participate in the building. 

Marking Period 1 ends November 10th. 

Parent Teacher Conference is on November 18th.
