MHBA PROGRAMS  AND EVENTS

 

At Mott Hall Bridges Academy, we believe enrichment programs and events; enhance classroom learning and develop scholars socially and emotionally. In connection to our mission, several of our programs are STEAM focused continuing our goal to develop critical thinkers that are college and career ready. MHBA prides itself in offering a diverse array of programs and events for our scholars and families. We understand sports is an important part of developing team building skills, increasing self esteem and improved physical health. Under our MHBA Athletics program, we have the Royal Knights Basketball Team, Royal Hitters Softball Team, flag football and track.

Be Cool Be Kind

Be Cool Be Kind

Be Cool Be Kind is a pro-kindness campaign created as a proactive initiative in response to a series of conversations addressing the rise of aggressive bullying occurring nationally and locally, specifically among middle school and high school aged youth.

Bridges Intervention

Bridges Intervention

Bridges Intervention is the academic after school help we offer (and at times require) for scholars who need additional support in certain subject areas.

Brooklyn Bridge Walk (ROP)

Brooklyn Bridge Walk (ROP)

Evey year, our scholars participate in the MHBA Rites of Passage tradition of walking across the Brooklyn Bridges marking the beginning of the journey in middle school and signifying them leaving their past behind and walking into their future.

Community Spotlight

Community Spotlight

Community Spotlight is an elective based program, where scholars have the opportunity spotlight their talents. In partnership with Purelements, an innovative performing arts organization, we offer our scholars performing arts programming.

MHBA Community Garden

MHBA Community Garden

Our grant funded community garden plays an important role in our S.T.E.A.M. program. Our science class utilize as the garden as a living learning lab.

L.A.B.Rats

L.A.B.Rats

A unique science club that plays an integral part of our S.T.E.A.M. program. The LAB Rats explores and engages scholars in science after school through intensive labs, dissection and field trips.

The initiative is a series of themed panel discussions and includes an annual men and boys luncheon. Overall, I Matter focuses on celebrating and empowering boys and men. This is a platform for boys and men that honors their voices through dialogue, while offering the opportunity to build, grow and network.

Sewing Club

Sewing Club

MHBA revives this dying skill by offering our scholars an after school sewing club as a part of our S.T.E.A.M program. Scholars have the opportunity to create items such as bags, pillows and even dresses through the skill of sewing.

The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship is a business program that helps scholars learn about different career choices and prepare for their futures by providing a broad exploration of career opportunities, highlighting promising careers and skills, and teaching the principles of personal finance, economics and entrepreneurship.

RoyalVision Step Team

RoyalVision Step Team

RoyalVision is the Mott Hall Bridges Academy national qualifying step team created in 2011.These middle school steppers compete across the city and out of state. They also host an annual step show at the school called Step Up or Step Aside.

She Is Me Program

She Is Me Program

In the day of age of "Bad Girls Clubs", the "Housewives" series, and "Love and Hip Hop", She Is Me, a is an empowerment mentoring girls group that meets after school. She Is Me is designed to help girls make smart choices and to develop into independent young women who are comfortable in their own skin. The She Is Me Luncheon, is annual event that empowers, inspires, honors and encourages girls and women to unite and embrace each other because we all share a common thread.

Mott Botts Program

Mott Botts Program

Funded by the SeaPerch Program, the Robotics club provides students with the resources they need to build an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). Scholars build the ROV from a kit comprised of low-cost, easily accessible parts, following a curriculum that teaches basic engineering and science concepts with a marine engineering theme. Throughout the project, scholars will learn engineering concepts, problem solving, teamwork, and technical applications. This is also a S.T.E.A.M. program.

Summer Bridges STEAM Program

Summer Bridges STEAM Program

Every summer we offer full day summer bridges STEAM program to help scholars, who need additional support before they enter the next grade and accelerated scholars who are preparing to take the Regents. The bridges program offers STEAM focused academic classes and extracurricular activities.
